Snow!

My parents babysat the kids at their house today, and when we got home Esther and Peter were begging to play out in the snow. So, after the 15 minute process of bundling everyone up, we headed out there.

Miriam wasn't so sure about her first experience of playing in the snow, but Peter and Esther were loving it! I'm not ready for winter, but I think they are!

Thanksgiving Feast

Today was Esther's pre-school Thanksgiving feast. Several weeks ago when the information came out about this event, Casey asked Esther if he could be her guest for the feast. Of course she was very excited about that idea, and they'd both been looking forward to it.

In the last week, all 3 kids have been sick with a stomach bug that hit them pretty hard. Esther was sick over the weekend, but was feeling better last night and seemed like she would be ready to go to school for the feast today. Then at around 10 pm last night, it hit Casey.

Both Casey and Esther were extremely disappointed that he couldn't join in the festivities. Fortunately, my parents were babysitting today anyway since I had to work, so my Dad graciously agreed to take Casey's place.

When he arrived, the Native Americans greeted the Pilgrims by playing their drums. Then they did some activities, heard a story and of couse got to eat the feast! They both had a really good time and we're really thankful that he could go so that Esther could still have a guest at her feast.

Crazy Climber

Miriam's newest activity is climbing. She likes to climb on top of boxes and just sit there, bouncing with pride at her accomplishment. She also loves to climb up stairs. Today she decided that it would be fun to climb on top of 2 storage tubs that were stacked on top of each other so that she could get a better view out the window. Then, as if she couldn't see well enough from there, she thought maybe she would attempt to climb onto the windowsill. We've got to keep a close eye on this one!

We were also wondering (since Casey was in the next room and heard the thud, but didn't see it happen), so I thought I'd go directly to the source and find out. More Funny Esther Quotes

Last night we were having pancakes for dinner and I was making them in the shape of the kids' initials. Then I was making some other random shapes, and Peter picked one up and said it looked like an 'L'. Esther commented, "If Peter's name was Pleter, it would have an 'L' in it!"

Last week she told my mom this procedure for how to put your shoes on in the dark (not sure why you would be doing this or why she was even thinking about why someone would need to do this):

"What you do is try putting one of the shoes on one of your feet. If it feels funny, then it must be the wrong one, so then you put it on the other foot. If it feels right, then you have it on the right foot. Then you put the other shoe on the other foot!"

That's some good common sense logic, straight from the mouth of a 4-year-old.

A Bride, a Lion and two Pumpkins

We had a fun halloween night. We ate an early dinner and then walked down the street to see a few of our neighbors. Then we dropped the Pumpkin off at Grandpa and Grandma W's and took the Bride and the Lion over to Calvin to their Light in the Night festivities.

We met some friends there and enjoyed trick-or-treating and games in several of the apartment buildings. It's fun to see the elaborate decorations and costumes that many of the college students create.

After we got home, Grandpa and Grandma K, Uncle Jeff and Aunt Renee, and Pumpkin Tyler came over for a bit.

The kids had a good time, but they were definitely tired and fell asleep very quickly!

Three Pumpkins

Casey's mom bought this pumpkin costume on clearance one year for about $3. Since all three kids have now worn it, we figure a buck a year is a pretty good deal for a costume. I thought it would be fun to compare how all the kids looked as pumpkins. You can certainly tell that they are siblings!
